The most important thing to make protein bars are ingredients. I am sure that everything else you have in your kitchen will be good enough. You just have to have the right ingredients.

Here is the list of ingredients you will need:

  • Protein powder
  • Flour
  • Milk
  • Batter
  • Chocolate

Protein powder is an essential part of the protein bars and you should get it, in case you don’t have it already. It’s the main source of protein in a protein bar.

Flour should be able to be eaten raw. For example, get yourself a coconut, almond, or any other grain-based flour.

Milk choice is up to you. It can be any milk, including cow’s milk from the box. You can even use tasty nut milk, for example, almond milk. It will go well with the protein powder.

Butter is not essential, but you can use it for making protein bars if you like. I’d recommend you to use nut butter.

Chocolate can be any chocolate, both dark and white. However, I’d highly recommend you 90%-100% dark chocolate. It contains less sugar and other not so healthy ingredients.

Now when you have all the ingredients, it’s time to start baking, right? I hope you are as excited as I was when I started making my own protein bars.

Step 1

Take your protein powder and mix it up with flour.

Step 2

Bind powder and flour with milk. You can also add butter if you decided to use it. Make sure that you add enough milk to make the batter come together like a dough. You want to end up with a batter that you can shape into the bars with your hands.

Step 3

When your batter is ready, use your hands to shape in in the bars. Try to approximately shape them in a size of a commercial protein bar.

To shape the bars more easily, make sure that your batter is dry.

Step 4

Melt the chocolate by using a boiling water. When it’s melted, dunk the shaped batter bars in the chocolate. Or you can just pour the chocolate over the bars.

Step 5

Place the bars in the freezer for about 30 minutes, and you’re done! After 30 minutes, they’re ready to be eaten.

Congratulations, you’ve just made your first own protein bars at home!

Now, that’s the basic way of making your own protein bars. However, if you would like to create even more tasteful protein bars right at home, you can follow some of the recipes.

Don’t worry, the process stays the same – you just have to get some extra ingredients!

Protein Bar Recipe

Here is my favorite protein bar recipe that will make your own protein bars taste even better than the commercial bars!

Toasted Coconut and Vanilla Protein Bars

Protein bar recipe

As mentioned above, the process stays the same, and they’re the exact protein bars you would get when you follow the steps above, just with a few ingredients more that will make the taste even more delicious.

Ingredients you will need:

  • Vanilla Whey (1/2 cup)
  • Flaked coconut (1/4 cup) – You can try and coast your own
  • Coconut flour  (1/4 cup)
  • Milk (1/4 cup)
  • Dark chocolate (30 grams)

The result of such protein bar would be:

  • Calories – 212
  • Total fat – 13 g
  • Total Carbs – 8.8 g
  • Protein – 16.6 g

You can see that the result of homemade protein bars is almost as equal to the commercial protein bars. And it wasn’t hard to make them, was it?

It’s the ideal situation. You almost don’t need any equipment, other than the freezer, at all. And the ingredients are something you most likely have at home. Except for the protein powder and maybe flaked coconut.

You should definitely give it a try, and let me know how it goes! Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate.
